Our Teaching Philosophy
Physics Toolbox was developed by prior high school physics teacher Rebecca Vieyra and mobile developer Chrystian Vieyra. The podcast below features Rebecca and her collaborations with Colleen Megowan-Romanowicz, prior executive officer of the American Modeling Teachers Association, a professional teaching society for STEM teachers.
In the podcast from Science Modeling Talks, Rebecca describes her pre-service and teaching years, as well as how her interest grew into working with teachers and technology through two grants funded by the National Science Foundation.
Learn about the Back End of Physics Toolbox
Join Chrystian and Rebecca Vieyra at a virtual event, hosted by DC Android Meetup, where they will share some back-end details about how sensors work and how developers can access data for their own projects.
Virtual STEMM Education Care Package: Stay Safe, Stay Schooled, Stay Sane
Join us for a panel hosted by the National Science and Entertainment Exchange, with Chrystian Vieyra, Lizabeth Fogel of USC Center EDGE, DaNel Hogan of The STEMAZing Project, and Zeke Kossover of the Exploratorium.

Modeling Absorption of X-Rays
This video below from lokodefiziko demonstrates an at-home experiment to understand the absorption of light by biological tissue.
This Portuguese-language document might support an experiment like the one above by noting how different kinds of material properties influence reflected and transmitted light.
Measuring the Speed of Sound
An additional video from lokodefiziko demonstrates how to measure the speed of sound using a long-necked bottle.
Circular Motion and Rotational Inertia
Get some inspiration from this Indonesian-language demonstration of how to measure circular motion with Physics Toolbox.
Physics Toolbox around the Web
How do future science teachers feel about the use of smartphones for teaching? This article includes an analysis of surveys of pre-service teachers in Malaysia.
This online web article, "Teaching experimental science in a time of social distancing" describes how you can use smartphone apps, including that of our colleagues in Germany, phyphox, to do science at home!
This Spanish-language article presents some examples of practical physics laboratory experiments with smartphone apps.
Have Physics Toolbox Apps been useful to you? We'd love to get your feedback on this quick 5-minute survey.
