Doing Science

Supporting "Demo Days" with Mobile Sensors

Vieyra Software recently had the opportunity to engage with about 25 girls and young women (as well as their brothers and parents) in Mexico to help them learn to explore the physical world with mobile sensors. This activity was part of an initiative, Niñas y Mujeres Haciendo Ciencia (Girls and Women Doing Science), led by Dr. Carmen del Pilar Suárez Rodríguez at the University of San Luis Potosí, to help all children appreciate science and consider a wide range of careers.

Physics and chemistry educators have a long tradition of doing "demo days" as part of their outreach. As many of us continue to be physically distanced and unable to help students explore the wonder of science in-person, we hope experiences like Physics Toolbox Play can help introduce families to fundamental principles through their smartphones!
