Technology with a Purpose: Enhancing Metacognition

Physics Toolbox is featured in a chapter that is now part of the 2nd edition of Best Practices in STEM Education, a book that showcases pedagogical strategies from some of the U.S.'s most distinguished K-12 teachers.

The Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellowship is a federally-mandated program that places exemplary STEM teachers at NASA, NOAA, the Department of Energy, the Library of Congress, and in the offices of U.S. congressional members.

It was during Rebecca Vieyra's fellowship year (2014-2015) that she co-founded Vieyra Software with her husband. In her chapter, "Teaching Students Metacognition through Discipline-Based Research and Technology," she describes how using technology helped her to think critically about how to help students think about their own thinking, an important aspect of critical thinking that is especially helpful in dealing with common physics misconceptions.
